Out
of northwest Ireland, Dervish achieves a high point of interpretation
of traditional Irish music. They make present and important authentic
stuff! |
| The original
Dervish were five musicians from County Sligo who came together to record
local music. Liam Kelly, Shane Mitchell, Martin McGinley, Brian McDonagh
and Michael Holmes were inspired to develop the informal gathering into
a working band. The name Dervish was chosen for its reference to poor
but spiritual people who become enraptured by music. The addition of
Roscommon-born singer Cathy Jordan gave the band a new dimension. Having
found the right balance of creativity and dedication, Dervish soon became
one of the most sought-after acts for live performances, and have continued
to remain so over the years. With six albums and a worldwide touring
schedule, Dervish is featured at Festivals of Celtic, Folk and World
Music.
